What the Sustainability Team has been focused on is finding the most cost effective material to reflect UV-C lights within the FRBC box. Initially they were planning to get mirrors, but the mirrors they need were too expensive so they had to search for an alternative. They ended up settling on aluminum after testing it against Stainless Steel. Aluminum is a lot cheaper than stainless steel, and while it may not reflect light as good, but it can reflect UV-C light very well.
Now that they settled on Aluminum, they needed to focus on what type of Aluminum they an use and this is what they were able to find. First was Aluminum sheet metal, it is good because it’s affordable and requires minimal changes to the design. Luxel Foil is also good because like aluminum metal, it's more flexible and could facilitate other designs including covering all areas of the interior, but Luxel is far harder to get so we do not consider it our recommended aluminum. The last option they have is recycled aluminum, the team determined it to be the worst option because they cannot process it into a usable form in their lab.
So this is all there is to be said about the Sustainibility team and there will be more to come in the future as the project keeps going.
